WHAT'S YOUR CONTEXT?

So as quite a few of you know I started university last week
&
oh
how
my
mind
has
been
blown!
It's awesome learning about a lot of things I touched on in art school in a shiny new context.
To keep me on the ball I'll try and integrate some of my art-ings into my studies.
Keep me motivated please people!!!

Last week we touched on the idea of Nature vs. Nurture.
It kind of reminded me of an episode of The Walking Dead when someone puts forward the notion that you can either be the Butcher or The Cattle.

Anywho I made my bff a cowl and matching lavender sachet, his bff took the "ribbon" for a spin.
Doesn't he look handsome?

Smithereens II:

Some lovely ladies came over and gave me a hand sanding back the eggs.
Here's some of the marks we made.

Quick Sketch:

Despite the organic nature of the "eggs", I still feel a compulsion to sand them back before adhering both sides together.
I love the marks that come onto the sandpaper from the chalk,
You can barely see it but I tried sketching some eggshells onto the top of the chalk / sandpaper.

The Song of the Rotten Bridge.
Deep is the abyss, son,
I see the weak bridge sway
But it's not for us, son,
To choose the way.

The way I know
Is the one you must tread,
And all you will eat
Is my bit of bread.

Of every four pieces you shall have three.

Bittersweet.

Being the talented person I am, I managed to drop and smash an entire jar of eggshells and manage to cut myself while cleaning up the mess.
It is typical that my work somehow involves literal blood, sweat and tears... So hopefully that is the last of the blood.
If anyone knows how to separate the glass from the powder I would love to know as I think some of the tiny bits of glass would make it through the sifting process.

Second photo is of Jez, Rahlee and I, Rahlee leaves tomorrow to go to Singapore for a job as an Interior Designer.
I know she's going to be beyond amazing and I shall miss her terribly.

600.

When chilling with one of my besties and his pal the other week,
He said his teacher once told him to look out for happy accidents.
I reflected upon that idea while trying to do some watercolours of the eggs, I wanted to add some colours from the "palette" I created last year.
As friend of ours and learning how to hula hoop seems to leave me with constant bruises so I wanted to add some of those pretty colours into the mix.
Then I noticed the light coming through the window that reflected onto the eggs like a rainbow bruise and I had a giggle.

Next is tempura sidewalk chalk eggs, that sort of look like macarons.
Despite only graduating from university formally as of last week it seems my skills are already getting rusty.
I think they are kind of cute none the less, either way there will be 600 of them in total.

Work in progress: Prototype #3

Here's my third attempt at making tempura sidewalk chalk,
I'll explain more about it later as progress is made.
It sure has been a while since I've last blogged.
Hope everyone has been well.
